We would like you to work with your child in selecting preferences for Exploratory/Electives next year. Use this link or the one below to access and complete the form. All submission must be made by June 2, 2016.
You will select the order of preference for each exploratory. Please note that Physical Education (PE) is not listed as an exploratory/elective choice. This is due to the requirement that all middle school students participate in PE every year. Therefore PE will automatically be one of the exploratory classes taken and not an option. You will also find brief course descriptions at the end of this email and a link can be found on the form.
Please note: Students request the exploratory/elective classes they wish to take, but actual placement is made by the administration of Aynor Middle School. Based on student grades, MAP, and other test scores it may be determine that a student will need to take an English and/or mathematics intervention classes to improve skills and foster academic success. Course descriptions Art is a class were students will have fun creating many different projects that they can be proud of while simultaneously learning valuable aspects of creativity and art.
Band is a woodwinds, brass and percussion class open to all grades. Students must be willing to dedicate time to learning to play an instrument. (Instrument rental may be required)
Broadcast Production is open to 8th grade students and an application is required- students must see Mrs. Johnston to pick up an application. Applications are due back May 27th.
Chorus is open to all grades and students will learn to use their vocal instrument (voice) to create a correct and pleasing singing sound. In addition to learning proper vocal production and technique, students will also learn music reading skills. Students are expected to participate in choral performances though the year. Purchase or rental of choral attire and choral binders is required.
Computers is a class open to all grades and exposes middle school students to basic computer technology concepts and word processing skills through hands-on computer activities. The students gain valuable skills which will prove beneficial when given assignments to complete in other classes. 6th graders take Keyboarding, 7th graders take Digital Literacy, and 8th graders take Google Basics
Drama is open to all grades and explores theater design, acting, and conducting a live performance.
General Exploratory 6 is open to 6th grade students and deals with creative writing, exploring literature, and creative thinking.
Orchestra is a string instrument class open to all grades. The instruments are violin, viola, cello or bass. Students must be willing to be dedicated to learning to play. Rental of an instrument is strongly suggested but the school does have a limited supply of instruments students may use.
6th grade Orchestra can be for beginners or experience students who might have played before.
7th grade Orchestra will have two classes. One class is an experienced class and the other is starter class.
8th grade Orchestra student must have participated in 6th and/or 7th grade
Rhythm Ensemble is a percussion class open to 8th grade students that would like to learn drums and other percussive instruments. Students will participate in the Blue Jacket Drumline and rehearse versions of popular songs for assemblies and other performances. Yearbook Production is open to 7th grade student and an application is required- students must see Mrs. Johnston to pick up an application. Applications are due back May 27th.
